WWC Sunbeam Shuriken Zoanthid
Species: Zoanthus spp.
Coral Type: Zoanthus
Sunbeam Shuriken Zoanthids are a visually captivating zoanthid variety known for their bright, contrasting colors and star-like patterns. Individual polyps feature a radiant yellow or gold center surrounded by a deep purple or blue outer ring, with a short fringe of tentacles that enhance their “shuriken” appearance. The polyps grow from a mat-like base that spreads over rock surfaces, forming dense, encrusting colonies. Under actinic or blue reef lighting, the fluorescent pigments glow intensely, creating a striking and dynamic display in mixed reef aquariums.
Coral Type: Zoanthus
Lighting: Low to Moderate lighting requirements (approximately 50–150 PAR)
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate; gentle water movement keeps polyps extended and prevents detritus buildup
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic through symbiotic zooxanthellae; occasional target or broadcast feeding with fine coral foods such as ReefRoids or Benereef can enhance growth and coloration
Aggression: Low toward neighboring corals, though colonies may gradually spread over nearby rockwork
Substrate: Best placed on rockwork or frag racks where the colony can encrust and expand naturally
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
