Species: Sarcophyton spp.

Coral Type: Soft Coral

Solomon Hairy Leather is a large, fleshy soft coral known for its distinctive “hairy” polyps that cover the surface of its thick, mushroom-like cap. The coral typically exhibits shades of green, brown, or tan, with polyps that extend during the day to create a feathery, flowing appearance in the aquarium. It forms a sturdy, encrusting base that anchors it to rockwork, while the cap can expand and contract in response to lighting and water flow. Under actinic lighting, the extended polyps often show subtle fluorescence, enhancing the coral’s textured and lively display.

Coral Type: Soft Coral
Lighting: Moderate lighting requirements (approximately 50–150 PAR)
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate; gentle water movement allows polyp extension and prevents debris accumulation on the leathery surface
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae; occasional feeding with fine particulate foods or ReefRoids/Benereef can support growth and coloration
Aggression: Low toward neighboring corals, though large expansions may shade nearby species
Substrate: Best placed on rockwork or frag racks where it can attach securely and expand freely

We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
