WWC Peacock Zoanthid
Species: Zoanthus spp.
Coral Type: Zoanthus
Peacock Zoanthids are colorful colonial polyps known for their striking, high-contrast patterns that resemble the eye of a peacock feather. Individual polyps often feature a bright green or teal oral disc surrounded by rings of blue, purple, or reddish hues, with a darker center and a contrasting skirt of short tentacles. They grow on a soft, mat-like tissue that spreads across rock surfaces, forming dense encrusting colonies over time. Under blue and actinic reef lighting, their pigments fluoresce intensely, making the colony glow vividly and stand out among other reef corals.
Coral Type: Zoanthus
Lighting: Low to Moderate lighting requirements (approximately 50–150 PAR)
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic through zooxanthellae; occasional broadcast feeding with fine coral foods such as ReefRoids or Benereef may encourage faster growth and polyp multiplication
Aggression: Low toward neighboring corals, though colonies can spread and overgrow nearby surfaces if not managed
Substrate: Best placed on rockwork or frag racks where the colony can encrust and spread naturally
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
