WWC Island Time Zoanthid
Species: Zoanthus spp.
Coral Type: Zoanthus
Island Time Zoanthids are vibrant colonial polyps prized for their tropical color palette and strong fluorescence under reef lighting. Individual polyps typically display a bright orange to golden oral disc with a contrasting green center and darker outer ring, often surrounded by a skirt of short tentacles in shades of green or brown. Like other zoanthids, they grow from a thin, mat-like tissue that spreads across rock surfaces, gradually forming dense clusters of polyps. Under actinic and blue-spectrum lighting, their pigments glow intensely, creating a bright and eye-catching display in reef aquariums.
Coral Type: Zoanthus
Lighting: Low to Moderate lighting requirements (approximately 50–150 PAR)
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic through symbiotic zooxanthellae; occasional broadcast feeding with fine coral foods such as ReefRoids or Benereef may promote faster growth and increased polyp production
Aggression: Low toward neighboring corals, though colonies can spread across nearby rockwork if not managed
Substrate: Best placed on rockwork or frag racks where the colony can encrust and expand naturally
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
