WWC Grasshopper Psammocora

Species: Psammocora spp.

Coral Type: SPS (Small Polyp Stony Coral) / Encrusting Coral

WWC Grasshopper Psammocora is a unique encrusting SPS coral known for its fine texture, rapid spreading growth, and vibrant fluorescent coloration. It forms a thin, carpet-like layer that closely follows rock surfaces, gradually developing a granular, sandpaper-like texture made up of densely packed corallites. The “Grasshopper” morph is especially prized for its bright neon green to yellow-green tissue contrasted with subtle darker undertones, creating a lively, high-fluorescence appearance across the colony.

Under actinic or blue-spectrum lighting, the vivid green tones intensify significantly, giving the coral a glowing, almost electric “grass-like” effect that stands out in lower to mid-light reef zones.

Coral Type: SPS / Encrusting Coral
Lighting: Moderate (approximately 100–250 PAR)
Flow Rate: Moderate to High; strong, random flow helps maintain clean tissue and supports healthy encrusting growth
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae; may benefit from occasional amino acid supplementation or ultra-fine particulate SPS coral foods
Aggression: Peaceful; does not possess sweeper tentacles but should be given space due to its fast encrusting growth pattern
Placement: Best placed on stable rockwork in mid-level lighting zones where it can safely encrust and expand without shading nearby corals

We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
