WWC Glowstick Hydnophora

Species: Hydnophora spp.

Coral Type: Moderate SPS

Glowstick Hydnophora is a visually stunning small polyp stony coral renowned for its fluorescent, neon green coloration under actinic and blue reef lighting. The coral forms thick, encrusting plates or low mounds with short, stubby projections that give it a textured, “spiky” surface reminiscent of a cluster of glowing sticks. Polyps extend slightly, especially under strong lighting, creating movement and enhancing its fluorescent effect. Its vibrant coloration and unique structure make it a striking centerpiece or accent in mature SPS reef aquariums.

Coral Type: Moderate SPS
Lighting: Moderate to High lighting requirements (approximately 150–250 PAR)
Flow Rate: Moderate to High; indirect turbulence supports polyp extension and helps prevent detritus buildup
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic through symbiotic zooxanthellae; occasional target feeding with fine coral foods such as ReefRoids or Benereef can enhance growth and fluorescence
Aggression: Low toward neighboring corals, though encrusting growth may slowly expand over nearby surfaces
Substrate: Best placed on stable rockwork or reef structures where it can encrust and expand naturally

We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
