WWC Fire and Ice Zoanthid
Species: Zoanthus spp.
Coral Type: Zoanthus
Fire and Ice Zoanthids are a striking colonial zoanthid variety known for their high-contrast coloration and fluorescent appeal under reef lighting. Individual polyps typically feature a bright fiery red or orange center (“fire”) surrounded by a cool blue or purple outer ring (“ice”), with a short fringe of tentacles around the edge. The polyps grow from a mat-like base that spreads across rock surfaces, forming dense, colorful colonies. Under actinic or blue-spectrum lighting, their colors intensify, creating a vivid, glowing display that draws attention in mixed reef aquariums.
Coral Type: Zoanthus
Lighting: Low to Moderate lighting requirements (approximately 50–150 PAR)
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae; occasional broadcast feeding with fine coral foods such as ReefRoids or Benereef can enhance growth and coloration
Aggression: Low toward neighboring corals, though colonies may spread over nearby rockwork if not managed
Substrate: Best placed on rockwork or frag racks where the colony can encrust and expand naturally
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
