WWC Emerald Grandis Palythoa
Species: Palythoa grandis
Coral Type: Zoanthus
Emerald Grandis Palythoa are large, bold polyps known for their rich emerald-green coloration and impressive size compared to most zoanthids. Individual polyps feature a wide oral disc that may display deep green tones with subtle radial striping or a slightly darker center, surrounded by a thick ring of short tentacles. The polyps grow from a durable mat-like base and can expand significantly when fully open, creating a dramatic presence on reef rockwork. Under actinic and blue-spectrum lighting, their green pigments fluoresce brightly, giving the colony a glowing emerald appearance in reef aquariums.
Coral Type: Zoanthus
Lighting: Low to Moderate lighting requirements (approximately 50–120 PAR)
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic through symbiotic zooxanthellae; however, their larger polyps can capture small particulate foods and benefit from occasional broadcast feeding with ReefRoids or Benereef
Aggression: Moderate toward neighboring corals due to their size and ability to spread across rockwork
Substrate: Best placed on rockwork or isolated islands where the colony can expand without overtaking nearby corals
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
