Species: Leptoseris spp.
Coral Type: LPS (Large Polyp Stony Coral) / Encrusting Coral
WWC BBQ Chip Leptoseris is a highly sought-after low-light LPS coral known for its ultra-thin encrusting growth and intense, patterned coloration. It spreads as a delicate, plating sheet that closely follows rock contours, often forming overlapping layers with a smooth, almost glassy surface. The “BBQ Chip” morph is prized for its rich, warm base tones—typically deep browns, reds, or maroons—accented with bright fluorescent greens, oranges, or yellows that resemble scattered “chips” across the colony.
Under actinic or blue-spectrum lighting, these fluorescent highlights intensify dramatically, creating a glowing, speckled effect that stands out even in shaded areas of the reef.
Coral Type: LPS / Encrusting Coral
Lighting: Low to Moderate (approximately 30–100 PAR) — prefers shaded or lower-light zones
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate; gentle, indirect flow is ideal to prevent tissue damage and keep the delicate surface clean
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic through symbiotic zooxanthellae; benefits from occasional target feeding with very fine particulate foods such as Reef Roids or planktonic blends
Aggression: Peaceful; does not possess sweeper tentacles but should be given space to encrust without competition from faster-growing corals
Placement: Best placed on shaded or lower reef rockwork where light is indirect and flow is gentle, allowing it to spread in thin, glowing layers
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
