Zoanthids – Zoanthus sp.
Zoanthids are colorful, hardy soft corals known for forming vibrant colonies of small polyps in a wide range of patterns and hues. Their ability to spread across rockwork makes them excellent for adding texture and visual interest to any reef aquascape. Most zoanthids are resilient, adaptable, and suitable for reefers of all experience levels. Under blue lighting, their fluorescent pigments create striking, eye-catching displays.
A minimum tank size of 10 gallons is adequate, as zoanthids thrive in both nano and large reef tanks. Add them once the aquarium is fully cycled and stable, with moderate light and gentle to moderate flow to encourage open, healthy polyps. They prefer clean, consistent water parameters with stable nutrients.
Zoanthids are primarily photosynthetic but benefit from occasional spot feeding. Offer PolypLab’s ReefRoids (noting it can raise phosphates) or Benepets Benereef to boost growth and enhance coloration.
