The Acanthurus vlamingii Vlamingii Tang is a large, striking reef fish with a robust body, bold dark markings along the head, and vibrant blue to yellow coloration on the fins. Active and hardy, it grazes on algae throughout the tank, helping control nuisance growth while displaying dynamic swimming behavior in the mid- to upper-water column. Generally semi-aggressive toward conspecifics, it is best housed singly or in very large aquariums with ample space to establish territory.

Vlamingii Tangs thrive in established reef tanks with stable water parameters, abundant live rock for grazing, and open swimming areas. Introduce only to mature systems to ensure acclimation and minimize stress. A minimum tank size of 125 gallons is recommended to accommodate their active swimming and territorial behavior.

Their diet should include algae-based foods such as Julian Sprung’s Sea Veggies along with high-quality frozen or pellet foods from San Francisco Bay Brand, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum to maintain coloration and health. Regular feedings encourage natural grazing and optimal nutrition.
