Two Spot Bristletooth Tang – Ctenochaetus binotatus
The Two Spot Bristletooth Tang displays a soft brown-to-slate body accented by two pale spots on the dorsal region and fine gold speckling across the face. Its characteristic bristle-like teeth are adapted for constant grazing, and it shows active, peaceful cruising behavior throughout the rockwork. This species is known for being hardy, efficient at film algae control, and generally less aggressive than other tangs.
It thrives in a stable, mature reef aquarium with ample rock surfaces for grazing and strong, oxygen-rich flow. Add this tang only after the system has fully stabilized—typically several months into maturity. A minimum tank size of 75 gallons is recommended to support its active swimming needs.
As a heavy grazer, it benefits from a diet rich in algae and high-quality prepared foods from San Francisco, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum. For additional vegetable matter and overall health, supplement regularly with Julian Sprung’s Sea Veggies.
