Turbo Snail – Turbo fluctuosa

The Turbo Snail is a hardy, eye-catching herbivore known for its thick, turban-shaped shell and shimmering interior. Highly active and efficient, it consumes large amounts of nuisance algae—including hair algae—from rockwork and glass surfaces. Peaceful and slow-moving, this snail spends its time grazing across the aquarium, making it a favorite among reef keepers looking for natural algae control. Its robust build and constant movement make it both functional and visually appealing in any clean-up crew.

Turbo Snails thrive in well-established reef aquariums of 20 gallons or larger, with stable, securely positioned rockwork and plenty of grazing surfaces. Because these snails are strong and surprisingly clumsy foragers, they can be little bulldozers capable of knocking over unsecured rocks and coral while searching for algae. They should be added once the tank has developed a healthy growth of algae to support their natural feeding behavior.

While they feed heavily on natural algae, supplemental feeding helps maintain their health in cleaner systems. Offer small portions of frozen spirulina  from Hikari or San Fransisco Bay Brand, Julian Sprung's Sea Veggies, or New Life Spectrum algae wafers.
