Sunny D Zoanthids
Species: Zoanthus spp.
Coral Type: Soft Coral / Colonial Polyp
Description:
Sunny D Zoanthids are a popular and colorful zoanthid variety known for their bright, contrasting appearance. Their vibrant oral discs and distinctive coloration can stand out beautifully under blue and actinic lighting, adding a cheerful splash of color to zoanthid gardens and mixed reef aquariums. These colonial polyps can gradually form attractive clusters as they grow, making them an excellent choice for reef keepers looking to add visual interest and variety to their aquascape.
Coral Type: Soft Coral / Colonial Polyp
Lighting: Moderate – approximately 75–150 PAR
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate – gentle, indirect flow that keeps the polyps free of debris while allowing them to open naturally
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic through their symbiotic zooxanthellae. Occasional fine particulate foods such as Reef Roids or Benereef may be offered to supplement nutrition and support healthy growth.
Aggression: Peaceful to Semi-Aggressive – zoanthids can spread quickly and may eventually compete with or overgrow neighboring corals.
Placement: Best placed on an isolated rock, frag island, or stable structure with sufficient room for the colony to expand without encroaching on nearby corals.
Quarantine & Biosecurity:
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program designed to protect the health of our coral collection and help reduce the introduction of unwanted pests and pathogens. Each coral is carefully inspected and monitored before being made available, providing an added layer of confidence when introducing new specimens to your reef system.
Safety Note: Zoanthids can contain palytoxin. Avoid unnecessary handling, and never cut, crush, boil, or use power tools on these corals. Use appropriate protective equipment and good ventilation when handling or fragging.
