Starry Rabbitfish - Siganus stellatus
The Starry Rabbitfish is a striking marine herbivore known for its deep-bodied profile, elongated face, and beautiful constellation-like white spotting across a dark body. This species can reach up to 12 inches in adulthood and is admired for its active swimming behavior and constant grazing habits. Generally peaceful toward most tankmates, the Starry Rabbitfish may become territorial with other rabbitfish or similarly shaped herbivores. Like other rabbitfish, it possesses venomous dorsal spines and should be handled carefully.
The Starry Rabbitfish is best suited for larger reef or fish-only marine aquariums with plenty of open swimming space and mature live rock for grazing. A minimum tank size of 180 gallons is recommended due to its adult size and activity level. This species should be added after more timid fish are established, as its confident feeding behavior can intimidate shy tankmates.
As an herbivore, the Starry Rabbitfish requires a diet rich in marine algae and vegetable-based foods. Offer Julian Sprung’s Sea Veggies daily using an algae clip along with Hikari Spirulina Brine Shrimp, Ocean Nutrition Formula 2 Frozen Food and Pellets, San Francisco Bay Brand Spirulina Mysis Shrimp, and New Life Spectrum Algae Pellets to maintain vibrant coloration and long-term health.
