Blue Sapphire Damselfish – Chrysiptera cf. springeri
The Blue Sapphire Damselfish is a hardy, brilliantly colored reef fish known for its striking electric-blue body and contrasting dark fin edging. Adults reach about 1.5 inches and may temporarily turn black when stressed, a natural camouflage behavior that helps them avoid predators. This species is active, alert, and often displays bold territorial behavior, especially toward slower or more docile tankmates. When kept in small groups introduced at the same time, they exhibit more natural schooling and social interactions.
Blue Sapphire Damselfish thrive in aquariums of 30 gallons or more with ample live rock, caves, and crevices that allow for territorial boundaries and secure retreat spaces. They are reef-safe and compatible with corals and most invertebrates. Because they can become more assertive as they mature, add them only after choosing more timid tankmates, or introduce them simultaneously with other semi-aggressive species to reduce territorial disputes.
These fish are omnivores and readily accept prepared foods. Offer New Life Spectrum Marine Formula, TDO Chromaboost pellets, and meaty frozen options such as Hikari Brine Shrimp or PE Mysis to support long-term color, growth, and vitality. Springeri Damsels will also eat flatworms.
Approximate product size (in inches): 3/4" – 1 1/2"
