The Spiny Ninja Star Astraea is a striking saltwater snail known for its star-shaped shell and distinctive pointed ridges that add texture and character to any reef aquarium. Its steady, methodical movement and strong grazing instincts make it an excellent member of a clean-up crew. This species is peaceful, reef-safe, and highly active during both day and night as it searches for surfaces to clear of algae.

These snails thrive in established marine aquariums with stable salinity and ample live rock. A minimum tank size of 10 gallons is recommended to ensure enough grazing area. For best results, add the Spiny Ninja Star Astraea after the tank has matured and developed natural algae growth.

While they primarily consume algae, they will readily accept supplemental feedings when natural growth is limited. Offer items from San Francisco, Hikari, PE, TDO, or New Life Spectrum, and for heavy algae eaters, provide Julian Sprung’s Sea Veggies as an excellent plant-based option.
