The Banded Sleeper Goby features a slender, elongated body with alternating dark and light horizontal bands and a translucent tail. It is a peaceful, sand-sifting species that spends much of its time buried in or hovering just above the substrate, actively sifting sand to remove detritus and aerate the sand bed. Its calm, non-aggressive nature makes it an excellent addition to community reef tanks.

This goby thrives in mature, stable reef aquariums with a deep, fine sand bed (2–3 inches) and ample rockwork for hiding. Add only after the tank has fully cycled and sand bed stability is established. A minimum tank size of 30 gallons is recommended for a single specimen.

It accepts finely chopped meaty foods from San Francisco, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum, and will also feed on naturally occurring microfauna in the substrate.
