Sexy Anemone Shrimp – Thor amboinensis

The Sexy Anemone Shrimp is a tiny, charismatic ornamental shrimp best known for its rhythmic “dancing” behavior, swaying its abdomen in a constant display. Reaching an adult size of about 1.5 inches, this species features a caramel-to-brown body adorned with bright white to pink spots and delicate blue edging. Often found perching on live rock, coral frags, or nestled among anemone tentacles, these shrimp add movement, personality, and color to any reef tank. Peaceful and reef-safe, they do well in small groups where their natural behaviors can truly shine.

Sexy Anemone Shrimp thrive in well-established aquariums with plenty of rockwork, caves, and ledges for perching and shelter. Although commonly associated with anemones in the wild, they do not require one, but will readily benefit from the protection of a host anemone if available. Introduce them only to stable systems of 5 gallons or larger, and avoid housing them with predatory fish that may view them as prey. Like all invertebrates, they are sensitive to salinity swings, high nitrates, and copper medications.

These shrimp accept a wide range of meaty micro-foods and will scavenge throughout the tank. Offer PE Cyclopods, Hikari Rotifers, or LRS Nano to ensure strong coloration, proper molting, and long-term health. Maintaining adequate magnesium and iodine levels further supports successful molts.
