Rock Flower Anemone – Epicystis crucifer
The Rock Flower Anemone, also known as the Beaded Anemone, is a hardy and vibrantly colored cnidarian that grows up to 8 inches across. These anemones display a wide range of stunning patterns and hues, making them highly sought after for reef displays. While capable of slow movement, Rock Flower Anemones typically remain where they settle, preferring shaded or low-light crevices and the protection of vertical rock faces. Peaceful and generally stationary, they make excellent additions to mixed reef tanks.
Rock Flower Anemones thrive in well-established aquariums with stable parameters, moderate lighting, and areas of soft substrate where they may partially bury their bases if illumination is intense. They should be added once the aquarium is mature, with a recommended minimum tank size of 20 gallons to maintain stability, although they can be kept in smaller tanks if parameters are well monitored. As with all invertebrates, they are highly sensitive to copper and other medications, so avoid treating tanks containing them.
These anemones benefit from a diet of small meaty foods, and will accept frozen items such as PE Mysis, LRS Nano, or Hikari Brine Shrimp offered periodically. Their symbiotic zooxanthellae also support their nutritional needs through photosynthesis, provided adequate light is available.
