Its soft, porous body gently sways with water flow, creating natural movement and texture. This non-photosynthetic invertebrate thrives when provided with stable conditions and consistent feeding. Known for its striking appearance, it serves as a brilliant contrast to corals and rockwork.

Behavioral description:
Unlike corals, Orange Tree Sponges do not sting, making them safe for reef fish and invertebrates. They are peaceful filter-feeders that rely on a steady stream of microscopic foods carried through the water column. As long as they are kept upright and never exposed to air, they remain hardy and visually stunning.

Suitable tank description:
Orange Tree Sponges perform best in a mature reef aquarium with moderate, laminar flow to deliver food and keep their structure clear of detritus. Add them only after your aquarium has stabilized for several months, ensuring consistent nutrient availability and water quality. A tank of 50 gallons or larger is recommended to maintain stable parameters for this sensitive filter-feeder.

Diet description:
This sponge requires regular feedings of fine particulate foods such as marine micro-foods from San Francisco Bay Brand, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum formulated for filter-feeding invertebrates. Although it does not consume algae directly, providing a nutrient-rich planktonic diet supports long-term growth and coloration.

Typically offered in the 4–6″ range, with branching specimens capable of expanding significantly under optimal conditions.
