One-Spot Foxface – Small – Siganus unimaculatus
The One-Spot Foxface displays a vibrant yellow body contrasted by bold black markings over the eyes and a distinctive black spot near the dorsal base. This small juvenile is active and alert, often hovering near rockwork while grazing on algae, yet shows a peaceful temperament in community tanks. When threatened, it can flare its venomous dorsal spines as a defensive display, making careful handling essential.
It thrives in a mature, stable reef aquarium with plenty of live rock for grazing and moderate flow. Add only after the tank has fully cycled and parameters are stable—typically several months into setup. A minimum tank size of 75 gallons is recommended to allow room for growth and active swimming.
The One-Spot Foxface is primarily herbivorous and does best on algae-based foods and premium diets from San Francisco, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum. Supplement with Julian Sprung’s Sea Veggies to support digestive health and vibrant coloration.
