Ocellate Damselfish — Chrysiptera ocellata

The Ocellate Damselfish is a vibrant, hardy reef fish known for its brilliant blue body with striking black spots on its tail and dorsal fin, making it a standout in any aquarium. Active and curious, it often patrols the rockwork and sandbed, adding both movement and color to the tank. While generally peaceful, it may display territorial behavior, especially when defending its chosen area, so caution is advised when introducing other damselfish or similarly sized species.

Ocelleate Damselfish thrive in established reef tanks with stable water parameters, moderate flow, and plenty of live rock or crevices for shelter. Due to their territorial nature, they are best suited for larger aquariums where they can establish their own space. A minimum tank size of 30 gallons is recommended, though larger tanks are ideal for multiple individuals.

Their diet should include high-quality frozen or pellet foods from San Francisco Bay Brand, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum, supplemented with small invertebrates or algae-based foods. Target feeding encourages active foraging and supports healthy growth.
