Ocellaris Clownfish – Amphiprion ocellaris
The Ocellaris Clownfish is rightfully one of the most popular marine fish for home aquariums, recognized for its bright orange body with bold white bands outlined in black. Hardy and adaptable, this peaceful species thrives in a variety of reef setups and forms strong pair bonds with a mate. Ocellaris Clownfish are social, but should generally be kept only in pairs, except in very large aquariums where multiple pairs can coexist. They are exciting to observe and provide engaging behavior as they interact with anemones or explore the reef.
Ocellaris Clownfish do best in established aquariums of 20 gallons or larger with stable water parameters and plenty of hiding places. They readily host in Bubble Tip Anemones or take refuge among live rock, and should be added only after the tank is mature and fully cycled. In smaller tanks, add these fish after smaller species to reduce the risk of aggression as Ocellaris Clown Fish can be territorial.
This species is an aggressive eater and will readily accept a variety of foods. Provide a mix of high-quality meaty foods and frozen or pellet preparations from trusted brands like San Francisco Bay, Hikari, PE Mysis, TDO, and New Life Spectrum to ensure optimal health and vibrant coloration.
