Jason Fox Jack-O-Lantern Leptoseris
Species: Leptoseris spp.
Coral Type: Difficult SPS
Jack-O-Lantern Leptoseris is a rare and visually striking small polyp stony coral prized for its glowing orange to reddish-orange coloration under actinic and blue reef lighting. It typically forms thin, encrusting plates that spread across rock surfaces, with subtle ridges and valleys that give it a delicate, textured appearance. The polyps are small and embedded within the skeleton, extending slightly to catch light and nutrients. Its fluorescent pigments intensify under proper lighting, creating the characteristic “Jack-O-Lantern” glow that makes it a standout in mature SPS reef setups.
Coral Type: Difficult SPS
Lighting: High lighting requirements (approximately 200–300+ PAR)
Flow Rate: Moderate to High; gentle turbulence ensures polyps remain clear of detritus while supporting nutrient exchange
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic through symbiotic zooxanthellae; occasional target feeding with fine coral foods such as ReefRoids or Benereef can promote coloration and growth
Aggression: Low toward neighboring corals, but delicate tissue requires careful placement away from aggressive corals
Substrate: Best placed on stable rockwork or reef structures where it can encrust without being shaded
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
