Scarlet Hermit Crab — Paguristes cadenati
The Paguristes cadenati Scarlet Hermit Crab is a small, vibrant reef invertebrate with striking red coloration and delicate white-tipped legs. Peaceful and reef-safe, it spends most of its time scavenging along the substrate and rockwork, consuming detritus and leftover food while helping maintain a clean aquarium. Its active foraging behavior and bold color make it a charming and functional addition to reef tanks.
Scarlet Hermit Crabs thrive in established reef tanks with stable water parameters, ample rockwork, and an assortment of empty shells for growth and security. Add them only after the aquarium is mature and free of aggressive tankmates. A minimum tank size of 10 gallons is recommended, though larger systems are ideal for multiple crabs.
Their diet can be supplemented with finely chopped or pellet foods from San Francisco Bay Brand, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum, alongside natural detritus and microfauna grazing. Target feeding ensures proper nutrition and supports vibrant coloration.
