Assorted Hermit Crab – Various Species (Red Leg, Blue Leg, White Reef & more)

Our Assorted Hermit Crabs are small, colorful reef invertebrates, and are a mix of various species including but not limited to Red Leg (Clibanarius digueti), Blue Leg (Clibanarius tricolor), and White Reef (Pagurus acadianus) hermit crabs. These hardy scavengers have vibrant leg coloration, compact bodies, and a habit of switching shells as they grow—so providing spare shells is essential. Their active, curious behavior makes them excellent members of a clean-up crew, consuming algae, detritus, and leftover food. Many species also dig through the sandbed, helping aerate the substrate and supporting healthy bacterial populations.

These hermits thrive in nano to large reef aquariums with ample rockwork, open substrate, and plenty of microalgae to graze on. They are best added to stable, established systems once diatoms, film algae, and detritus begin to appear. Because of their small size and constant grazing activity, they are ideal early clean-up crew additions that help control nuisance algae before it becomes a problem.

Although they naturally scavenge, their diet should be supplemented with small portions of high-quality foods such as frozen mysis or enriched brine from San Francisco Bay Brand, Hikari, or PE, along with micro pellets from TDO or New Life Spectrum. When algae levels are low, offer dried seaweed to ensure consistent nutrition.
