The Yellow Foxface Rabbitfish is a bold and eye-catching herbivore, known for its vibrant yellow body contrasted by a distinctive black-and-white “fox mask” across the face. Growing up to ~8–9 inches as an adult, this species is both hardy and active, making it an excellent centerpiece fish for medium to large marine aquariums. Generally peaceful and reef-safe with caution, Foxfaces are exceptional algae grazers but may occasionally nip at soft or fleshy corals if not well fed. Like other rabbitfish, they possess venomous dorsal spines used strictly for defense—handle carefully during transfers or maintenance.

This species thrives in well-established aquariums with ample swimming space, live rock for grazing, and plenty of hiding areas to retreat when startled. We recommend a minimum tank size of 100 gallons to accommodate their active nature and adult size.

A primarily herbivorous feeder, the Yellow Foxface eagerly consumes nuisance algae along with a variety of prepared foods. Offer a balanced diet including Hikari Spirulina Brine Shrimp, Ocean Nutrition Formula 2 (frozen or pellets), San Francisco Bay Brand Spirulina Mysis Shrimp, and New Life Spectrum Algae Pellets. For optimal health and natural grazing behavior, supplement daily with Julian Sprung’s Sea Veggies using an algae clip.
