Magnificent Firefish - Nemateleotris magnifica

Firefish are one of the most popular fish in the marine hobby with brilliant coloration, a unique body shape, and unparalleled personality. Because of its small size it makes a great addition to smaller reef systems. Magnificent Firefish, have a yellow head, white anterior, and pinkish to orange-red posterior. The dorsal, anal, and caudal fins are highlighted in black.

All sizes of reef aquariums can benefit from the addition of the Magnificent Firefish. Singularly or in groups, the Firefish Goby, as it is also named, are not aggressive towards other fish.  These fish are usually found in groups hoovering and feeding in the current above outcroppings and reef heads. The Firefish Goby is timid and will need many hiding holes to dart in and out of as it thrives in one’s reef aquarium..

The Firefish Goby requires a 20-gallon or larger system with moderate lighting and moderate flow passing over the live rocks. Known as a jumper, be sure to keep a tight lid or cover on your aquarium to keep stressed Firefish from jumping out.

Spirulina enriched brine shrimp and mysis can make up the main stay of the Firefishes’ diet along with other vitamin-enriched small frozen foods.
