Aiptasia-Eating Filefish — Acreichthys tomentosus
The Acreichthys tomentosus Aiptasia-Eating Filefish is a small, reef-safe fish with a slender, laterally compressed body and subtle, mottled brown-to-grey coloration that blends seamlessly into rockwork. Renowned for its specialized diet, it actively grazes on nuisance Aiptasia anemones, helping maintain balance in reef aquariums. Generally peaceful and non-aggressive, it spends much of its time patrolling rockwork and crevices while contributing natural pest control.
Aiptasia-Eating Filefish thrive in established reef tanks with stable water parameters, mature rockwork, and plenty of hiding spots. Introduce them only once the system is fully cycled and free of aggressive tankmates that may harass smaller fish. A minimum tank size of 30 gallons is recommended to provide adequate swimming space and territory.
Their diet can be supplemented with high-quality frozen or pellet foods from San Francisco Bay Brand, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum, alongside natural Aiptasia consumption to maintain optimal health. Regular feeding helps prevent over-predation on other sessile invertebrates.
Approximate product size: 2.5"–3.5" (varies by availability)
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of fish health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
