ECC Twizzler Zoanthid

Species: Zoanthus sp.

Coral Type: Zoanthus

Physical Description: Twizzler Zoanthids are vibrant, candy-inspired button polyps known for their twisted, high-contrast coloration and playful visual patterning. Each polyp typically features a bright, sugary mix of red, pink, and deep magenta tones, often streaked or ringed with lighter highlights that create a “twisted” candy-like appearance reminiscent of its namesake. The skirts usually carry darker maroon or purple accents that enhance contrast and make the oral disk appear even more luminous. Under actinic and blue-spectrum lighting, the fluorescent pigments intensify, producing a glowing, confection-like effect that stands out strongly in reef displays. As the colony grows, it spreads across rockwork and frag plugs, forming dense, colorful mats of tightly packed polyps.

Coral Type: Zoanthus
Lighting: Moderate (approximately 80–150 PAR)
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate with gentle, indirect flow
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic but may benefit from occasional broadcast feeding of fine particulate foods such as reef roids or phytoplankton
Aggression: Low; generally peaceful and well-suited for mixed reef aquariums
Substrate: Best placed on rockwork, frag plugs, or isolated zoanthid garden areas where it can expand naturally

We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
