Species: Favia sp.
Coral Type: LPS Coral (Large Polyp Stony)
Physical Description: Rainbow Rim Favia is a vibrant, highly patterned LPS coral prized for its multi-colored corallite rims and bold contrast. Each polyp typically features a darker base—ranging from deep brown to forest green or charcoal—surrounded by striking “rainbow” rims that can display bands of neon green, electric blue, bright orange, and soft pink depending on lighting and colony variation. The raised skeletal structure gives each polyp a distinct, rounded appearance, creating a textured, brain-like surface with intense color separation. Under actinic and blue-spectrum lighting, the fluorescent pigments intensify, making the multi-colored rims glow dramatically and giving the colony a vivid, jewel-like appearance.
Coral Type: LPS (Large Polyp Stony)
Lighting: Low to Moderate (approximately 50–150 PAR)
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate with gentle, indirect flow to support full polyp expansion and tissue health
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic but benefits from regular target feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, reef blends, or finely chopped seafood.
Aggression: Moderate; capable of extending sweeper tentacles at night and should be given adequate spacing from neighboring corals.
Substrate: Best placed on stable rockwork or lower reef structures where it can expand without contact from more delicate species.
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
