Species: Montipora sp.
Coral Type: SPS Coral (Small Polyp Stony)
Physical Description: Pokerstar Montipora is a highly sought-after encrusting SPS coral known for its vivid coloration and finely detailed polyp structure. It typically displays a bright green to neon base with contrasting blue, purple, or teal polyps that create a speckled “starfield” effect across the colony. As it grows, it forms a smooth encrusting or plating structure that expands over rockwork, developing dense, textured surfaces covered in tightly packed polyps. Under actinic and blue-spectrum lighting, the fluorescent pigments intensify significantly, producing a glowing, high-contrast appearance that gives the coral its signature “pokerstar” look.
Coral Type: SPS (Small Polyp Stony)
Lighting: High (approximately 200–350 PAR)
Flow Rate: Moderate to High, with strong, random turbulent flow to promote health and polyp extension
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic but benefits from occasional dosing of fine particulate SPS foods, amino acids, and reef nutrients.
Aggression: Low; generally peaceful but requires adequate spacing due to growth encrustment over nearby surfaces.
Substrate: Best placed on stable live rock in higher light zones with strong flow, where it can encrust and expand without obstruction.
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
