ECC Playboy Bunny Palythoa
Species: Palythoa spp.
Coral Type: Soft Coral / Colonial Polyp
Description:
ECC Playboy Bunny Palythoa is a bold and colorful colonial coral that can add strong visual contrast to a reef aquarium. Its individual polyps can create an attractive colony as they grow across suitable rockwork, with coloration often becoming especially vibrant under blue and actinic lighting. Palythoa are generally adaptable once established and can be a great choice for dedicated soft-coral sections or colorful reef displays.
Coral Type: Soft Coral / Colonial Polyp
Lighting: Moderate – approximately 75–150 PAR
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate – gentle, indirect flow that keeps the polyps clean while allowing them to open naturally
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic through their symbiotic zooxanthellae. Occasional fine particulate foods can be offered as supplemental nutrition to support healthy growth and coloration.
Aggression: Peaceful to Semi-Aggressive – Palythoa can spread quickly and may eventually compete with or overgrow neighboring corals.
Placement: Best placed on an isolated rock, frag island, or stable structure with sufficient room for the colony to expand.
Quarantine & Biosecurity:
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program designed to protect the health of our coral collection and help reduce the introduction of unwanted pests and pathogens. Each coral is carefully inspected and monitored before being made available, providing an added layer of confidence when introducing new specimens to your reef system.
Safety Note: Palythoa can contain palytoxin. Avoid unnecessary handling, and never cut, crush, boil, or use power tools on these corals. Use appropriate protective equipment and good ventilation when handling or fragging.
