Species: Palythoa sp.
Coral Type: Palythoa
Physical Description: Oompa Loompa Palythoas are bold, fast-growing button polyps prized for their rich orange coloration and striking contrast. Each polyp typically features a vibrant burnt-orange to golden oral disk with darker concentric rings surrounding the mouth, paired with contrasting skirts that may display hints of brown or deep orange. Under actinic and blue-spectrum lighting, the fluorescent pigments intensify dramatically, giving the colony a warm glowing appearance that stands out beautifully in mixed reef aquariums. Their larger polyp size compared to traditional zoanthids creates a fuller, more textured look as the colony spreads across rock surfaces and frag plugs, forming dense clusters of colorful polyps.
Coral Type: Palythoa
Lighting: Moderate (approximately 80–150 PAR)
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate with gentle, indirect flow
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic but benefits from occasional broadcast feeding of fine particulate foods such as reef roids, phytoplankton, or other suspended coral foods.
Aggression: Low to Moderate; generally peaceful but may spread aggressively over nearby surfaces if left unchecked.
Substrate: Best placed on rockwork, frag plugs, or isolated garden islands where the colony can naturally expand without overtaking neighboring corals.
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
