Physical Description: Blue Raven Blastomussa merletti is a deeply colored, high-contrast LPS coral prized for its dark, moody base tones and striking cool-hued centers. Each polyp is large, fleshy, and distinctly separated, typically featuring a deep charcoal to dark purple or near-black base that gives the colony a dramatic, “raven-like” appearance. The oral centers provide the defining contrast, often displaying glowing shades of electric blue, icy teal, or neon cyan that appear to float within the darker tissue. Under actinic and blue-spectrum lighting, the fluorescent centers intensify significantly, creating a piercing, jewel-like glow that stands out sharply against the shadowy background.
