Physical Description: Arc Reactor Blastomussa merletti is a high-contrast, intensely fluorescent LPS coral known for its “powered core” appearance and deeply fleshy polyp structure. Each polyp is large, rounded, and distinctly separated, typically featuring a dark base ranging from deep indigo, charcoal, or maroon to near-black tones that create a strong backdrop. The defining feature is the brilliant central oral disk, which glows with electric blue, neon cyan, or radiant green—often appearing as a concentrated “energy core” reminiscent of a reactor. Subtle gradients may radiate outward from the center, enhancing the illusion of light emanating through the tissue. Under actinic and blue-spectrum lighting, the fluorescence intensifies dramatically, producing a vivid, high-energy glow that makes each polyp stand out like a lit node in a dark field.
