Dragon Wrasse - Juvenile - Novaculichthys taeniourus

The Dragon Wrasse is also known as the Rockmover Wrasse. The juvenile body coloration typically is gray to green with touches of white and black markings. The Dragon Wrasse’s fins are also remarkable due to their shape, especially the first two dorsal spines that form “horns” or upward protrusions. The adult wrasse, losses these larger protrusions and has a light gray to blue – green body with dark markings.

The Dragon Wrasse typically does well in larger tanks, 125 gallon or larger with a thick sand bed  (2”-3”).  Passive tank mates work best as a juvenile but can be kept with larger more aggressive species as it becomes an adult.  No reef safe,  as the Dragon Wrasse grows it can consume crustaceans, snails, shrimp, starfish, and smaller fish. It will also move coral and rocks, as it searches for buried food

The Dragon Wrasse diet is a regular carnivore diet of frozen mysis shrimp, vitamin enriched frozen brine shrimp, and other meaty foods, and has been known to feed on flakes and pellets.
