Diamond Goby — Valenciennea strigata

The Valenciennea strigata Diamond Goby is a peaceful, reef-safe fish featuring a slender body with a silver base, adorned with iridescent diamond-like markings along its sides and long, delicate fins. It spends most of its time sifting through sand for detritus and small invertebrates, contributing to substrate aeration and overall tank cleanliness. Its calm, social behavior makes it an ideal addition to community reef aquariums.

Diamond Gobies thrive in established reef tanks with stable water parameters, deep, fine sandbeds for natural burrowing, and plenty of rockwork for shelter. Introduce only after the aquarium is mature to ensure ample food availability and reduce stress. A minimum tank size of 30 gallons is recommended to provide adequate space for burrowing and natural behavior.

Their diet can be supplemented with finely chopped or pellet foods from San Francisco Bay Brand, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum, alongside natural detritus and microfauna consumption. Target feeding helps maintain health and encourages natural foraging behavior.
