Clown Tang — Acanthurus lineatus

The Clown Tang is a striking reef fish known for its vibrant yellow and blue horizontal stripes, creating a bold and colorful centerpiece in any marine aquarium. Highly active and energetic, it spends much of its time grazing on algae along rockwork, helping control nuisance algae while displaying dynamic swimming behavior. While generally reef-safe with larger fish, it may become territorial toward other tangs, so proper tank size and placement are important.

Clown Tangs thrive in established reef tanks with stable water parameters, abundant live rock for grazing, and plenty of open swimming space. Introduce only to mature systems to reduce stress and support natural foraging. A minimum tank size of 180 gallons is recommended to accommodate their active nature and territorial behavior.

Their diet should include algae-based foods such as Julian Sprung’s Sea Veggies, along with high-quality frozen or pellet foods from San Francisco Bay Brand, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum to maintain vibrant coloration and overall health. Target feeding encourages active grazing and robust vitality.
