The Alpheus randalli Candy Stripe Pistol Shrimp is a small, vibrant invertebrate featuring striking red and white banding along its body and oversized snapping claw used for communication and burrow defense. It is a fascinating and active burrower, often forming symbiotic partnerships with gobies, with which it shares a shared territory and mutual alert system. Peaceful and reef-safe, it adds both behavioral interest and natural substrate maintenance to marine aquariums.
Candy Stripe Pistol Shrimp thrive in established reef tanks with stable water parameters, fine sand substrate for burrowing, and plenty of rockwork for shelter. Introduce them only after the tank is mature to reduce stress and ensure stable conditions. A minimum tank size of 20 gallons is recommended to provide adequate territory and burrowing space.
Their diet can be supplemented with finely chopped or pellet foods from San Francisco Bay Brand, Hikari, PE, TDO, and New Life Spectrum. Occasional target feedings support health alongside natural detritus and microfauna consumption.
