Black Spot Tang – Acanthurus bariene

The Black Spot Surgeonfish is a small, peaceful tang with a brown-to-olive body covered in fine horizontal lines and a distinctive black spot near the base of the tail. It is an active grazer, constantly picking at algae films on rock surfaces, and exhibits calm, non-aggressive behavior, making it ideal for community reef tanks. Its small size and steady grazing habits help maintain natural algae control in the aquarium.

This species thrives in mature, stable reef tanks with plenty of rockwork for grazing and moderate flow to keep detritus suspended. Add only after the tank has stabilized, typically several months into the system. A minimum tank size of 50 gallons is recommended to support its active lifestyle.
