Physical Description & Behavior: 

The Asfur Angelfish, also known as the Arabian Angelfish, is a stunning large angelfish prized for its deep navy-blue body highlighted by a bold golden-yellow tail and a striking yellow patch along the flank. As they mature, their coloration intensifies, making them a true showpiece in large marine aquariums. Reaching up to ~16 inches as an adult, this species is active and semi-aggressive, best suited for experienced hobbyists. While not considered reef-safe, they are ideal for fish-only or FOWLR systems, as they may nip at corals, sponges, and sessile invertebrates.

Suitable Tank Size & Environment:   

This species thrives in spacious, well-established aquariums with extensive rockwork for grazing and shelter, along with ample open swimming space. Due to their size and activity level, we recommend a minimum tank size of 180 gallons, with larger systems strongly preferred for long-term success.

Diet:     

An omnivorous feeder, the Asfur Angelfish requires a varied and nutrient-rich diet. Offer a mix of high-quality preparations including angelfish-specific formulas containing sponge matter, Hikari Mega Marine Angel, Ocean Nutrition Angel Formula, Mysis shrimp, and Spirulina-based foods. Supplement with sheets of marine algae such as Julian Sprung’s Sea Veggies to support overall health and coloration.
