WWC Whammin Watermelon Zoanthids are a classic high-contrast designer zoanthid prized for their bold, “watermelon-inspired” coloration and strong fluorescence under blue-spectrum lighting. Each polyp typically features a deep red to magenta center surrounded by a bright green oral ring and darker skirt, creating a striking bullseye effect reminiscent of a ripe watermelon slice. When colonies grow in dense mats, they produce a vivid patchwork of red and green that stands out strongly against live rock and other reef inhabitants. Under actinic lighting, the reds intensify and the greens fluoresce, giving the colony a glowing, high-impact appearance.
Coral Type: Soft Coral / Zoanthid Lighting: Moderate lighting requirements (approximately 75–150 PAR). Best coloration and fluorescence are typically achieved under blue-dominant reef LEDs or mixed spectrum lighting Flow Rate: Low to Moderate; prefers gentle, indirect flow that keeps polyps clean and encourages full extension Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae; may benefit from occasional feeding of fine particulate coral foods such as Reef Roids or Benereef to support faster growth and enhanced coloration Aggression: Peaceful to Semi-Aggressive; reef-safe overall but can spread aggressively and may overgrow nearby sessile corals if not contained Placement: Best placed on isolated rock structures or “zoa islands” with stable light and flow, allowing controlled expansion and easy management of colony growth
We maintain a rigorous quarantine and acclimation protocol that includes extended observation, preventative dipping procedures, and continuous health monitoring to ensure all corals are free from pests and stress before introduction to display systems.
