WWC Sunset Imposter Montipora
Species: Montipora spp.
Coral Type: SPS (Small Polyp Stony Coral)
WWC Sunset Imposter Montipora is a vibrant SPS coral known for its bold coloration and fast, encrusting-to-plating growth. It develops thin, expanding plates or crust-like layers covered in fine polyps that give the surface a subtle textured shimmer. The “Sunset Imposter” morph is prized for its fiery combination of neon orange to red base tissue contrasted with bright green, yellow, or pink polyps that create a high-impact, multicolored display reminiscent of a sunset palette—but with its own distinct variation.
Under actinic or blue-spectrum lighting, the fluorescent pigments intensify dramatically, causing the contrasting colors to glow and separate more vividly across the colony.
Coral Type: SPS
Lighting: Moderate to High (approximately 150–300 PAR)
Flow Rate: Moderate to High; strong, random flow supports healthy growth and prevents detritus from settling on the plating surface
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic through symbiotic zooxanthellae; may benefit from occasional amino acid supplementation or fine particulate coral foods
Aggression: Peaceful; lacks sweeper tentacles but should be given space due to its encrusting and plating expansion
Placement: Best placed on stable rockwork in well-lit, high-flow areas where plates can expand freely without shading neighboring corals
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
