Species: Lithophyllon spp.
Coral Type: LPS (Large Polyp Stony Coral) / Encrusting Chalice-Type Coral
WWC Ice Sheet Lithophyllon is a highly prized, ultra-smooth encrusting coral known for its icy coloration and elegant, flowing growth pattern. It forms thin, undulating sheets that drape across rock surfaces like frozen layers, often developing subtle folds and ridges as the colony expands. The “Ice Sheet” morph is especially valued for its cool-toned palette—typically featuring pale blue, icy white, and soft mint or teal highlights that glow intensely under actinic lighting.
Its surface often displays faint texture and glowing polyp centers that give the entire colony a shimmering, frozen-glass appearance, making it a standout low-profile showpiece in shaded reef zones.
Coral Type: LPS / Encrusting Chalice-Type Coral
Lighting: Low to Moderate (approximately 40–120 PAR) — prefers shaded or indirect light
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate; gentle, indirect flow helps protect its fleshy tissue and maintain a clean surface
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic through symbiotic zooxanthellae; benefits from occasional target feeding with fine particulate or meaty LPS foods such as Reef Roids or mysis-based blends
Aggression: Moderate; can extend sweeper tentacles at night, so spacing from nearby corals is recommended
Placement: Best placed on lower rockwork, ledges, or shaded areas where it can encrust freely without strong light or direct competition
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
