Species: Montipora hirsuta
Coral Type: Moderate SPS
Green Hirsuta Montipora is a small polyp stony coral admired for its vibrant green coloration and unique textured surface, with short, hair-like projections covering its encrusting plates or ridges. The polyps are tightly packed, giving the colony a slightly bumpy, “hirsute” appearance as it spreads steadily over rockwork. Under actinic or blue-spectrum lighting, the fluorescent green pigments intensify, making it a striking and dynamic addition to SPS-focused reef aquariums.
Coral Type: Moderate SPS
Lighting: Moderate to High lighting requirements (approximately 150–250 PAR)
Flow Rate: Moderate to High; indirect turbulence supports polyp extension and prevents detritus buildup
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic through symbiotic zooxanthellae; occasional target feeding with fine coral foods such as ReefRoids or Benereef can enhance growth and coloration
Aggression: Low toward neighboring corals, but allow space to prevent shading or overgrowth
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
