Species: Cyphastrea spp.
Coral Type: LPS (Large Polyp Stony Coral) / Encrusting Coral
WWC Butterscotch Cyphastrea is a richly colored encrusting coral prized for its warm, golden-brown palette and high-contrast fluorescent polyps. It forms a thin, spreading base that gradually carpets rockwork with a textured surface of raised corallites. The “butterscotch” coloration typically features creamy caramel to amber tissue tones dotted with bright neon green or yellow polyps, creating a glowing, starry-night effect across the colony. Under actinic or blue-spectrum lighting, the fluorescent polyps intensify significantly, giving the coral a warm, glowing appearance that stands out beautifully in lower reef zones.
Coral Type: LPS / Encrusting Coral
Lighting: Low to Moderate lighting requirements (approximately 50–150 PAR)
Flow Rate: Low to Moderate; gentle, indirect flow helps keep the surface clean and supports healthy polyp extension
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic through symbiotic zooxanthellae; benefits from occasional target feeding with fine particulate foods such as Reef Roids or Benereef to enhance growth and coloration
Aggression: Peaceful; does not typically extend sweeper tentacles but should be given space to encrust without competition from faster-growing corals
Placement: Best placed on stable rock surfaces in lower to mid-light areas where it can safely spread and develop its encrusting pattern
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
