Species: Montipora spp.
Coral Type: SPS (Small Polyp Stony Coral)
WWC Apple Berry Montipora is a vibrant encrusting-to-plating SPS coral known for its rich coloration and dense polyp texture. It grows as smooth, layered plates or thick encrusting sheets that gradually spread across rockwork, creating a colorful, structured surface. The “Apple Berry” morph is especially prized for its fruity mix of tones—typically featuring bright apple-green base tissue contrasted with berry-like accents of pink, purple, or red polyps that create a speckled, high-contrast appearance.
Under actinic or blue-spectrum lighting, the fluorescent pigments intensify significantly, giving the colony a glowing, fruit-toned display that stands out in SPS-dominated reef systems.
Coral Type: SPS
Lighting: Moderate to High (approximately 150–300 PAR)
Flow Rate: Moderate to High; strong, random flow promotes healthy growth and prevents detritus accumulation on plating surfaces
Food Requirements: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae; may benefit from occasional amino acid supplementation or ultra-fine SPS coral foods
Aggression: Peaceful; does not possess sweeper tentacles but requires space due to encrusting and plating growth patterns
Placement: Best placed on stable rockwork in mid to upper reef zones with strong lighting and flow where it can expand freely without shading neighbors
We maintain a rigorous, veterinarian-approved quarantine program that includes proactive treatments, careful observation, and daily monitoring to ensure the highest standards of coral and invertebrate health. Our biosecurity practices reduce the risk of any cross-contamination between systems, meaning all our livestock are ready for your display tanks.
