Sunset Montipora is a highly sought-after encrusting SPS coral prized for its vivid contrast of bright orange tissue and intensely colored polyps. This coral develops a smooth, plating-to-encrusting growth pattern covered in small fluorescent red, blue, or purple polyps that create a glowing “sunset” appearance across the colony. Under actinic or blue-spectrum lighting, its colors become exceptionally vibrant, making Sunset Montipora a standout addition to reef aquariums. As the colony matures, it forms intricate layers and spreading plates that add both texture and depth to the reefscape.
